ALLEN WAXMAN NAMED BOARD CHAIR OF EQUAL JUSTICE WORKS
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Equal Justice Works announced the appointment of Kaye Scholer LLP’s Allen Waxman as Chairman of the Board of Directors, effective immediately.

As an Equal Justice Works board member since 2004, Mr. Waxman formerly served as Vice Chair and has been instrumental in providing guidance and insight to the organization as it continues to grow its national reach and the impact of its programs.

“Allen is an incredibly smart, energetic and creative leader. Ever since his first board meeting, he asked provocative questions and challenged the board and staff to think about new initiatives,” said David Stern, Chief Executive Officer for Equal Justice Works. “His passion for this organization is contagious.”

“I am thrilled to take on this role. We have a terrifically talented staff, and a very dedicated board. This is a unique time and opportunity for lawyers working in the public interest. I look forward to Equal Justice Works finding new and creative ways to continue to lead that effort,” said Mr. Waxman.

At Kaye Scholer, Mr. Waxman’s practice focuses on complex litigation, government investigations, and the challenges that the convergence of litigation, compliance and regulation pose to clients. Prior to joining Kaye Scholer, Mr. Waxman served as General Counsel for Pfizer Inc. At Pfizer, he was instrumental in the company’s sponsorship of Equal Justice Works Fellows, including several working on medical-legal partnerships related to children’s health. With his leadership, these innovative fellowships launched new programs, many of which have been sustained by legal services organizations even after the conclusion of the fellowships. Pfizer’s Legal Division continues to sponsor Fellows, and is actively engaged in mentoring their projects. Before Pfizer, Mr. Waxman was a partner at the law firm of Williams & Connolly, LLP in Washington, DC, trying criminal and civil cases.

Mr. Waxman has also served as an adjunct professor of law at Georgetown University Law Center as well as Chairman of the Board of the first law-related charter school in the District of Columbia — the Thurgood Marshall Academy. He also serves on the New York Regional Board for the Anti-Defamation League. Mr. Waxman was formerly a law clerk for the Honorable Thomas Penfield Jackson of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. He earned his A.B. from Dartmouth College and his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1987.
