EQUAL JUSTICE WORKS APPOINTS LAW STUDENTS AND PROFESSIONALS
TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND NATIONAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Equal Justice Works has appointed a new member to its Board of Directors and three new members to its National Advisory Committee. Meagan Mirtenbaum, a second-year law student at the University of North Carolina School of Law, has been named to the Board of Directors for a three-year term. New members added to the National Advisory Committee for two-year terms are: Chloe Walker, University of Houston Law Center (Class of 2012); Karthik Subramanian, University of Alabama School of Law (Class of 2011); and Cybele Smith, Director of Public Service and Public Interest Programs at the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law.

The Equal Justice Works Board of Directors is comprised of national leaders – from law firms, law schools, corporate legal departments and the public sector – who share a commitment to working for equal justice on behalf of underserved communities and causes. In addition to her studies, Ms. Mirtenbaum is a research assistant for the University of North Carolina Juvenile Justice Clinic and a staff member of the First Amendment Law Review. She has interned at Legal Aid of North Carolina and as an Equal Justice Works Summer Corps member at Bread for the City in Washington, D.C., and is a Peer Mentor for the Carolina Public Interest Law Organization. Ms. Mirtenbaum received her B.S. in Psychology and Organizational Studies from the University of Michigan.

The National Advisory Committee advances the goals of Equal Justice Works by engaging law school stakeholders; conducting outreach to students and professionals at member law schools; providing advice on programmatic direction, issue identification and campaign strategies; and assisting with the design, implementation and evaluation of select initiatives.

Ms. Walker, Mr. Subramanian and Ms. Smith are joining the 14-member Committee that includes law school students, law school professionals and faculty. They will serve as ambassadors in their communities and will provide advice and support to Equal Justice Works in its efforts to mobilize the next generation of lawyers committed to equal justice.
