2008 Equal Justice Works Law School Awards
Equal Justice Works annually honors the outstanding public interest contributions of a law school dean, the work of a law school faculty or staff member dedicated to public interest law and the exemplary public service work of a law student and a law student group or project.
Nominations may be self-appointed or coming from any person or group that knows the nominee well. This includes but is not limited to: deans; law school career services and public interest counselors; advisors, faculty, clinical professors, students, student groups and extern/intern supervisors.
The 2008 awards will be presented at the Equal Justice Works Luncheon in Washington, D.C. on October 10.
John R. Kramer Outstanding Law School Dean Award
Honoring a dean who has successfully demonstrated a commitment to building an institution that nurtures a spirit of public service.
The John R. Kramer Outstanding Law School Dean Award honors a dean who has successfully demonstrated a commitment to building an institution that nurtures a spirit of public service.
ELIGIBILITY
- The law school dean must preside over an Equal Justice Works member law school during the 2007-2008 school year.
- The award recipient must be available to receive the award in person on Friday, October 10, 2008. Equal Justice Works will provide all transportation and lodging for award winners.
AWARDS CRITERIA
- Commitment to building an institution that nurtures a spirit of public service.
- Support of public service initiatives for all students.
- Support of the next generation of public interest attorneys.
- Mobilizing the resources of his/her institution for public interest.
- The overall scope of the dean’s work, focusing on the past year.
Completed nominations are due no later than June 2, 2008 at 5 p.m. EDT.
Outstanding Law School Faculty or Staff Award
Recognizing a law school faculty or staff member for his or her outstanding support of the next generation of public interest lawyers.
The Outstanding Law School Faculty or Staff Award recognizes a law school faculty or staff member for his or her outstanding support of the next generation of public interest lawyers.
ELIGIBILITY
- The law school faculty or staff member must be employed at an Equal Justice Works member law school during the 2007-2008 school year.
- The award recipient must be available to receive the award in person on Friday, October 10, 2008. Equal Justice Works will provide all transportation and lodging for award winners.
AWARDS CRITERIA
- Increased public interest commitment at his or her law school.
- Supported public service initiatives for students.
- Increased visibility of public interest opportunities.
Completed nominations are due no later than June 2, 2008 at 5 p.m. EDT.
Exemplary Public Service Award for a Student
Please note this award will presented at the Equal Justice Works Awards dinner on Thursday, October 16.
Exemplary Public Service Award for a law student recognizes the exceptional work of a law student within the law school community during the 2007-2008 academic year. Applications are encouraged from law students who performed a unique public interest summer internship, clinical work or pro bono work.
ELIGIBILITY
- The student must attend an Equal Justice Works member law school during the 2007-2008 school year.
- The work of the student must have been accomplished within the 2007-2008 academic year.
- The award recipient must be available to receive the award in person on Thursday, October 16, 2008. Equal Justice Works will provide all transportation and lodging for award winners.
AWARDS CRITERIA
- Purpose and scope of the work or project.
- Innovative approach to impact the community.
- Outcomes and accomplishments of the student's work or project.
- Impact of the experience gained from the work or project.
- What was learned from the work or project.
Completed nominations are due no later than July 30, 2008 at 5 p.m. EDT.
Exemplary Public Service Award for a Student Group or Project
The Exemplary Public Service Award for a student group or project recognizes the exceptional work of a law student group within the law school community during the 2007-2008 academic year. Applications for projects are sought from student group projects that advance the public service ethic of their campus and peers and from those who have conducted collaborative efforts among faculty, students and administrators to effect change on their campus or within the community at large.
ELIGIBILITY
- Members of the student group must attend an Equal Justice Works member law school during the 2007-2008 school year.
- The award recipients must be available to receive the award in person on Friday, October 10, 2008. Equal Justice Works will provide all transportation and lodging for award winners.

- Purpose and scope of the work or project.
- Innovative approach to impact the community.
